Customer Assistance Information . . . . . . . . . . . . [. . . ] Trying to start your Pontiac by pushing or pulling it could damage your vehicle, even if you have a manual transaxle. And if you have an automatic transaxle, it won't start that way.
jumper cablescan reach, but be sure the vehicles aren't touching each other. You wouldn't be ableto startyour Pontiac, and the bad grounding could damage the electrical systems. Put an automatic transaxle in P (Park) or a manual transaxle in N (Neutral). And it could save your radio!
Find the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals on each battery.

5. Check that thejumper cablesdon't
have looseor missing insulation. Before you connect the cables, here are some basicthings you should know. Positive (+) w go to positive i l (+) and negative (-) will go to negative (-) or a metal enginepart. Don't connect (+) to (-) or you'll get a short thatwould damagethe battery and maybe other parts, too.
6. Connect the red positive (+) cable to the positive (+) terminal of the
vehicle withthe dead battery. Use a remote positive (+) terminal if the vehicle has one.

7. Attach the cable at least 18 inches
Connect it to thepositive (+) terminal of the good battery. Now connect the black negative(-) cable to the good battery's negative (-) terminal. The other end the negative cable of doesn't go to the dead battery. It goes on to a heavy unpainted metal part the engine of the vehicle withthe dead battery.
12. Remove the cables in reverse order
(45 cm) awayfrom the dead battery, but not near engine parts that move. The electricalconnection is just as good there, but thechance of sparks getting backto the battery is much less. Now start thevehicle with the good battery and run theengine for a while. If it won't start after a few tries, it probably needs service.
