Plextor also provides a tray/caddy adapter that provides the reliability of a caddy and the convenience of a tray. Unless provided or recommended by Plextor, use of a non-standard caddy (e. g. , one that lacks a metal shutter on its bottom) is not recommended. [. . . ] NOTE: The tray/caddy is specially designed for use with the PlexWriter 4/12. It should not be used in other CD-R or CD-ROM drives. GRASP bottom (tan colored) portion of the Tray/Caddy in the middle (notice ``ridges'' and the words ``Disc Eject''). PULL out entire bottom portion until you feel it hesitate or ``catch''. Continue to pull it out further until you see the top, clear portion of the Tray/Caddy unit come out another 1". PUSH the Tray/Caddy unit straight in by applying pressure in the middle of the bottom portion, with either your thumb or top of forefinger. NOTE: The Tray/Caddy will ``catch'' slightly on the bottom ---- simply continue pushing it forward until it is back in the drive. Loading the Caddy into the Drive 1. Carefully insert the caddy in the direction shown, with the arrow mark facing the drive. Hint: You need use only one hand to insert the caddy into the drive. This is easily accomplished by placing Arrow Mark the front portion of the caddy on top of the lip of the drive's door. If the caddy will not eject from the drive after pushing the Eject button, you should be able to remove the caddy from the drive by using the Emergency Eject button. Please contact Plextor's Technical Support Department before attempting to reinsert the caddy into the drive. Cleaning the Disc For proper read and write performance, it is important that your CD-R and CD-ROM discs be clean. Trying to record on a dirty disc may result in a failed session and ruin the disc. If the disc is merely dusty, you may use a commercially available dust removal spray such as Dust-Off or Vari-Air to blow dust particles off the disc. After removing the dust particles, you may wipe the disc using a clean, soft cotton cloth to remove surface dirt such as fingerprints. In order to hear the audio CD your drive is playing, you can plug a pair of stereo headphones or self-powered speakers into the headphone jack on the drive's front panel.
