[. . . ] Your new scales are designed to provide a highly accurate indication of the weight you gain or lose during a certain period of time, and they will last for many years under normal conditions of use. We therefore recommend you read this manual before using the scales for the first time, and keep it for later reference. [. . . ] They will also switch off if no-one stands on them for around 8 seconds. Remove the plastic insulation from the battery contacts, on the underside of the scales, before using them. If the scales are to be out of use for some time, either place the plastic insulation between one of the contacts and the battery or remove the batteries. When the batteries need replacing, the following message will appear on the display: · Their structure is delicate and sensitive to any external impact. Do not attempt to open the scales to repair them, as this will nullify the guarantee. If the scales do not work when you switch them on, make sure a battery has been inserted and that it has not run down. If the display stops working or cannot be switched off for a long period of time, remove the batteries for around 3 seconds then insert them again to eliminate the temporary failure. If this does not solve the problem, consult your supplier This means they must be replaced by new ones. NOTE: Do not touch the electrode plate as it could break or lose its elasticity during the battery replacement process. Spent batteries must be disposed of in the special containers provided. Do not knock, shake or drop the scales, as this could break the glass. Clean the scales with a dry cloth and prevent any water from entering them.
