You define which sites are allowed or disallowed--based on content or malware risk--and then specify what response occurs when a user's Web request triggers the rule. For each rule, you can create enforcement schedules and throttle Web use by connections, bytes, or time. There are two types of rules: · · Global Only Group or User-based Global Only Web Rules Global Web rules apply one set of rules to everyone. You might choose this option for an organization where everyone has the same Web-use needs. Example: · An organization may set standard rules for Web use and security for every employee, regardless of department or role. Group- or User-based Web Rules In addition to global rules and reports, you can create rules and reports that apply to different groups of people or even individual users. You will need to install a Barracuda Adapter on your network to associate user information with Web traffic. Examples: · · An organization might allow the legal department to see anything, but limit production workers to specific sites that they need for their jobs. Another organization might set a global policy to block access to all pornography and entertainment sites; set a group policy to allow the marketing department to access social networking sites; and set a user-based policy to allow the CEO to access everything. Blocking or Allowing Access Rules can include any combination of the following components, which control what the rule denies or allows: · Whitelist--rules with a whitelist component allow access to specific sites. They can apply to all users, groups of users, or specific IP addresses. Whitelist rules are the first rules Purewire Web Security Service Manager checks when a user request occurs, so a site on a whitelist rule will be available even if another rule is created to deny it. Blacklist--rules with a blacklist component deny access to specific sites.
